What does restaurant design cost in Los Angeles?

The factors behind the fee and the build-out

Restaurant budgets are decided early, often before the lease is signed. The space you choose, the concept and the kitchen drive most of the cost. Knowing these factors helps you plan the opening with fewer surprises.

The space you lease

A former restaurant with a working hood, grease interceptor and restrooms is very different from an empty shell. Ask your designer to review the space before you sign; it can change the budget more than any finish.

The concept and the seat count

A counter-service cafe, a full-service restaurant and a bar with a kitchen each need different layouts, equipment and finishes. The number of seats affects restrooms, exits and accessibility requirements as well as revenue.

The kitchen and building systems

Kitchen equipment, ventilation, plumbing and electrical upgrades are often the largest part of a build-out. They are designed with a kitchen designer and engineers and reviewed by the building and health departments.

Design scope and fee

The design fee depends on the size of the restaurant, how custom the interior is and whether the studio also prepares permit drawings and supervises the build-out.

Time is money

Rent often starts before opening. A clear design and complete drawings shorten permits and construction, and that can save more than any material choice.
